A Walk Around the Neighborhood

I bundled up and took a walk late this afternoon and found a few unexpected items. A neighbor had a vegetable garden that just wasn’t ready to give up. It had a thick gray vine with deep purple eggplants still attached. I have not gotten the hang of cooking eggplants but they are pretty. Around the corner I passed a climbing vine on a fence that caught my eye with its red berries. I share the photos as I would like to share my walk.

Eggplant still hanging in there

Eggplant still hanging in there

I don’t know if the cold has affected the quality of this eggplant but it is still beautiful and still shines. There were several smaller ones still on the vine too.

I don’t know what this vine is but the cold hasn’t stopped it from making these bright red berries.

Upcoming Attractions

Life, love, laughter, tears, and waiting-and waiting-and waiting.  It is cold here and I love it. The wet I could take or leave except my area needs the water. So this rainy day is a good time to say hi and give a preview of some of the coming topics.

Divorce: that first year is a roller coaster ride.

When is this last grown child going to leave home (or be ready for me to leave home).

I have a hoarder friend who has a possum living in his oven. I do not lie!

Unemployment: A long stressful vacation with no money to spend.

Too many pets: My daughter calls our home a refuge for disabled animals. This was not intentional.

Undiagnosed Asperger’s Syndrome in a child: Not a walk in the park!

Too many books: Or too few book shelves.

Welcome

I love hearing people laugh at my stories. Not fiction, but stories from my life and the lives of friends and family. No one is safe, but I change the names to protect the innocent and guilty, I am not here to make enemies. This blog is about the ridiculousness of life and the unexpected sweetness. OK, so now you are wondering what the title is about.  I love parks. I grew up in a city with great parks and lived directly across the street from a 45-acre one. And when I say parks I am not talking about a small patch of green and a playground, I am talking lush green hills and woods with trees four or five stories tall. To me parks are the greatest places on earth. A full life must include at least one great park on a regular basis. I could have called the blog “My life is a walk in the Park” but that was too long. “A walk in the Park was taken. But I realize that I would prefer comparing life to a park itself, rather than just a walk in one. I want the tragic-comedy of life to be as rich and lush as the parks that I love.
